100 Years 100 Faces

Below is a visual key for the 100 years | 100 faces mural in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, unveiled for the city’s centenary. The entire project was commissioned by the Stoke-on-Trent City Centre BID and created by Alastair Barnett and me throughout 2025. It denotes all of the figures and their locations numerically. You may be surprised to learn that there are actually more than 100 faces depicted within the mural.

Before I begin the evaluation process below, which is an integral part of the process that I’ve become accustomed to post mural completion, it’s essential to highlight the relationship that’s been fostered between Alastair and me and the Stoke-on-Trent City Centre BID throughout the time creating this mural.

It’s with this in mind that I stress the importance of not writing too much within the Key and the outlined map. To do so could undermine the combined efforts of so many people who are currently ensuring a thorough story is told surrounding the 100 years of Stoke City’s status, the remarkable people present within this mural, and those who were instrumental in making our city what it is. The curation I speak of will take the form of a book(let) that highlights the overall mural project; however, more importantly, it will provide each of the 100 Faces with the necessary context and background that many people have requested to know.
